Davari is a major antagonist in the television series The New Legends of Monkey. He is portrayed by Josh McKenzie.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Davari was a friend of Monkey but manipulated him into stealing a crown and taking the scrolls for himself. Davari made sure that nobody knew that he was a demon.

Season 1[]

The Journey Begins[]

Davari watches from a portal as Monkey, Tipitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy leave Palawa. He says that you can’t trust anyone but yourself, which is why the only friends he keeps are the ones he made by his own hands. He takes a lock of hair from a god and creates another Font Demon.

The Monkey King Returns[]

Davari is warned by Raxion that three gods are headed his way. He believes that they can help him translate the scroll. He orders Raxion to find them and take them to the shaman’s breaking ground.

A Crown Does Not Make You King[]

500 years ago, Davari and Monkey were friends at Jade Mountain. He throws food and playfully picks a fight with Monkey, though he is in no joking mood. He sarcastically asks what’s wrong with a warrior being a warrior. Davari informs Monkey that they’re likely training him to become a master, so they look for more from him rather than just being a warrior.

Monkey tells Davari that he’s leaving Jade Mountain to build his own kingdom back home. Davari tries to convince him to stay, claiming that the gods belittle him and look down on him despite the fact that he could destroy them all. He tells Monkey that he’s a king and deserves a crown.

Davari disguises himself as a ninja and kills Master, setting Monkey up to get the blame.

A Part of You That's Missing[]

Raxion reads Tripitaka’s letter to Davari. Raxion volunteers to find them, but Davari has someone else in mind, that being Font Demon, who successfully retrieves Tripitaka and brings her to the palace. He tells her that together, they will change the world.

In Search of Tripitaka[]

Davari takes Tripitaka to see the gods he has acquired. He has them unknowingly translating. In their minds, they’re working in the ancient library of the gods. However, a god’s mind will always find a way to resist, whilst a human mind, much like Tripitaka’s, is much easier to manipulate.

The following day, Davari shows Tripitaka around town. They are interrupted by Raxion. Unbeknownst to Davari, it's a set up, with Monkey and Pigsy not far away. Monkey fires an arrow, but misses, forcing him and Pigsy to flee.

Davari sends his men off to hunt down Monkey and Pigsy and accuses Raxion of orchestrating the entire plan. Raxion blames Davari for his lack of loyalty. He never believed in him or treated him kindly. Raxion draws his sword to fight, but Davari kills him before he can finish his sentence.

Davari questions why Tripitaka isn’t translating the scrolls. He threatens to throw her into the abyss at the bottom of the palace should she refuse. Even as the guards lift Tripitaka by her feet and threaten to throw her over, she refuses to translate the scrolls. Davari orders his men to stop and to bring her back. Tripitaka notices that Davari is hurt, deducing that he is ill, which is why he needs her to translate the scroll. He corrects Tripitaka; he’s not ill. He’s old but would like to become immortal. Tripitaka’s refusal persisted. Instead of throwing her owner into the abyss, they throw a god over instead. Everyday she refuses to translate the scroll, another god will be thrown into the abyss.

Monkey takes an invisibility elixir and sneaks into Davari’s chamber. However, Davari is aware of his presence and forces Monkey to become visible. Monkey draws his staff and attacks Davari. However, he finds himself surrounded by Davari and his guards. So he jumps off the balcony into the abyss and grabs onto the side of the cliff.

Tripitaka tries to escape but comes face-to-face with Davari. Unfortunately, Tripitaka has dropped the scroll. Davari offers her a chance to either run away or die fighting him for the scroll.

A Hero to Save Us All[]

Davari claims that the scroll belongs to him. Tripitaka kicks it under the door and flees in the opposite direction.

Davari joins Princess Locke, the Shaman, and the other notable demons at the banquet. He welcomes them to the center of the universe. He explains that the only difference between gods and demons is that demons only get to live 600 years whilst gods are immortal. Davari has successfully translated the scroll for immortality. Monkey, Pigsy, Shamai, and Lusio prepare to attack, however, Davari is aware of their plans and orders his guards to take Silver and Oak captive.

Davari performs the spell to become immortal. Tripitaka and Sandy arrive at the banquet with Font Demon and a small army of sentinels. A battle ensues. Davari and Shaman escape with the scroll. Monkey finds Davari in his chamber performing the immortality spell. However, Shaman presents him with a choice: either he saves Tripitaka from going over the balcony or he stops Davari. Tripitaka encourages him to stop Davari. As he inches towards Davari, Shaman sends Tripitaka flying over the balcony, down to the abyss. Monkey jumps off the balcony after her.

Monkey charges towards Davari. He incapacitates Monkey, as well as Sandy and Pigsy. Shaman then activates one of the suction devices that engulfed Tripitaka’s home. She grabs it and throws it at Davari. It latches onto his chest and imprisons him inside. He struggles to fight his way out, but instead goes flying off the balcony.
