Plot synopsis[]
The Monkey King and crew meet the mysterious Mycelia in a garden that's too good to be true before helping Pigsy avoid a flavorful but deadly fate.
Summary[]
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy wheel Pigsy on a cart. Sandy’s plant starts to wither as they continue down the path to the Scroll of Creation. However, it starts to bloom as they head down the right path, the path that'll save Pigsy.
General Khan, Dreglon, Mothrax, Cranius, Hagfish, Moggoth, Quiver, and Kimura feast in the hall. Khan wonders if it was their Demon Queen Hakuru who gave the throne power or the throne that gave her power. Hagfish encourages Khan to take a seat on the throne. Dreglon pushes past the two of them and sits on the throne. Gorm returns and Dreglon pees himself. Gorm has come with the sacred scrolls and tells them to bow down to him.
Sandy’s flower has grown another leaf, indicating that they’re going the right way. Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy suddenly find themselves surrounded by harvesters. They want Pigsy, referring to him as the “dead one.” The lead harvester claims that Pigsy smells dead and whatever dies in their forest stays with them. The three of them defend Pigsy from the harvesters. Tripitaka notices that one of the harvesters is wearing Kaedo’s goggles and accuses them of killing him, but the harvesters don’t kill, they only plunder the dead. Pigsy charges his rake and kills one of the harvesters, causing the others to ravage him for his belongings.
General Khan and Dreglon are both willing to lead their men into battle for Gorm, but he tells both of them to leave and not to return without a real army. Hagfish informs Gorm of the Scroll of Creation and how it can be used to summon a real army. Khan believes if they can find Monkey, then they can find the scroll.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy arrive in a garden with Pigsy, where they reunite with Mycelia, who is prepared to help save Pigsy’s life. She gives him herbs that will heal him.
Tripitaka blames herself for Kaedo’s death and losing Monkey’s staff as well as the scrolls. Mycelia assures her that it’s not her fault and that it isn’t her responsibility to carry the weight of the world.
Pigsy awakens in the Graveyard of the Gods. Mycelia tells him that he has a choice to make. He can either lie down with the other gods and become part of the forest or go back to his quest. Pigsy has been alive 1500 years and no one has asked him what he wants to do. He awakens and Mycelia welcomes him to the first day of his life.
Sandy meets Timothee, a villager who plays the guitar. She lays in a field with him. He asks what’s wrong as she becomes anxious. She then remembers that they’re supposed to be on a quest for the scrolls. Sandy finds Tripitaka with two of the village girls and reminds her of the scrolls. Tripitaka appears to be in some kind of trance, but Sandy awakens her from it by reminding Tripitaka of Kaedo.
Tripitaka and Sandy find Monkey, who is being treated like a celebrity by the villagers. They try to get him to remember their mission, but he has the guards take them away. In hopes of forcing Monkey to remember, Tripitaka performs the Headache Sutra, which causes him to regain his memory and join Tripitaka and Sandy.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy find Pigsy and inform him that the garden is an illusion and decoy. Mycelia offers them what they most desire so that they stop looking for what they actually need. However, Pigsy isn’t interested in going with them. Not long after, he realizes that the fruit in the garden is decaying and tries to leaving, but the garden retrains him.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy find the Scroll of Creation, but they are confronted by Mycelia. She refuses to willingly give them the scroll and calls her “children” to defend it. They discover her children are actually mushroom people/fungal creatures. With the death of each one, Mycelia feels heartache. As Monkey fights off the mushroom people, Sandy demands that Mycelia release the scroll as Tripitaka can’t seem to retrieve it from inside the tree. Tripitaka calls out to the Scroll of Creation and summons a saw to cut the scroll free, however, she hurts her hand in the process. In retrieving the scroll, Mycelia disappears. Sandy goes to free Pigsy while Monkey and Tripitaka escape.
