Gwen is a recurring character in the television series The New Legends of Monkey. She is portrayed by Chelsie Preston Crayford.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Gwen was one of the Gods that banished Monkey from Jade Mountain. After the Demons attacked, she realized she was wrong. She spent the last 500 years trying to right that wrong.
Season 1[]
A Crown Does Not Make You King[]
500 years ago, Gwen assisted in capturing Monkey after he was accused of killing Master. She sentenced him to be imprisoned in stone.
Until I Met You[]
Gwen saves Tripitaka from being killed by The Kin. She admits that she was wrong for sending Monkey away, and she’s spent the last 500 years trying to right that wrong. She then offers to lead them out of the forest. After saving Tripitaka, her and the Gods find refuge in a cave. She explains the backstory of The Kin. After being attacked by The Kin again, she discovers that Tripitaka has been poisoned. She rips Tripitaka's shirt open and discovers that he is actually a she. Gwen keeps this secret from the others and tells Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy to stay back and stand guard. She’s been waiting in the forest for a long time, waiting for the Monkey King to arrive with a warrior monk. However, Tripitaka is neither a warrior nor a monk. Gwen asks Tripitaka who she truly is. Just before passing out, she hands Gwen the letter she had from her mother.
Gwen asks Monkey what did the scholar tell him about Tripitaka, however, Monkey never got to meet him as it was Tripitaka who released him. He adds that Tripitaka also rescued them from the Shaman.
Tripitaka awakens to find Gwen hovering over her. Tripitaka reveals how she was raised by the scholar, and he taught her the ways. When he died, it was as if the world ended. She had to become Tripitaka to release Monkey and save the world. Gwen holds her hand over Tripitaka’s chest and tells her to breathe, seemingly healing her.
The following evening, while under attack by the Kin, she reveals to Tripitaka that she couldn't simply take away the poison that was killing her, so she transferred it to herself. Gwen is then knocked to the ground by Raxion.
She kept the secret about Tripitaka and bravely transferred the poison from Tripitaka's body into hers. She fought off another attack by The Kin and guarded Tripitaka. After the battle, Gwen sadly died from the poison. After defeating Raxion, she tells Monkey to protect Tripitaka at all costs. In her final moment, Gwen tells Tripitaka to never deny her true self.
Powers[]
- Immortality: Due to the fact that she was a God, Gwen possessed immortality, though as proven through transferring Tripitaka's poison, she is not invulnerable.
