Monica feeds Tripitaka some porridge. She asks if Tripitaka has money, but sadly she doesn't. Monica makes her work it off. For every incident Tripitaka caused, Monica would write down a point on a chalkboard, which indicates Tripitaka would work for a day more. Monica let Tripitaka sleep in a cozy, yet tight, room. When Tripitaka steals the Monkey King's crown from a Font Demon, he gets angry and chokes Monica. Monica then approaches Pigsy and warns him about the demon.

The Edge of Nowhere[]

After a fight breaks out between Monkey and a group of mercenaries, she is questioned by Pigsy. She tells him how he destroyed her tavern, exited swiftly, and came alone.

Monkey returns to Monica’s tavern that night. He gives her one of his golden bangles to pay for the damages caused. He saw her altar out back. He needs help finding a demon who specializes in the abduction of little boys, particularly monks.

The Journey Begins[]

Monica serves Pigsy at her tavern. She tells him that he should be ashamed of himself. Monica asks him about the monk he took. Pigsy reveals that he didn’t kill the monk. He’s never killed a human. He simply sent Tripitaka away.

Monica tells Tripitaka that she will send a sky lantern up in her honor. It blesses the journey of the gods and promises them good spirits, courage, and fortitude. Monica whispers into Tripitaka’s ear to tell her that she’s a good girl and to take care of herself.

The Breaking Ground[]

Monica appears to Tripitaka, Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy in the breaking ground. She tells them to eat up and get ready for the best night of their lives. Everything is on the house. Monica asks if they like games. Sandy and Pigsy admit that they do.

In the first round, Monica offers up two bags of gold and a wagon full of town goodies. Monica tells them that it’s a memory game; all they have to do is write down the things they remember. She tells them to translate the God’s language. Sandy and Pigsy are engulfed in the game, but Monkey remains suspicious and refuses to write.

Monica informs them that there are prizes for accuracy and speed during the game, but Monkey remains uninteresting and skeptical. Monica starts the next round. While Sandy and Pigsy translate the scrolls, Monkey tells Lior that he needs his help in getting back to Jade Mountain.
