Tripitaka believes that’s where the resistance is based. However, she realizes that Monkey isn’t interested in her cause.
While trying to remove the crown from his head with a fork at the tavern, he accidentally stabs a mercenary. The man refuses Monkey’s apology and puts food on his head. Monkey retaliates and a fight ensues. It’s during the battle that his power seems to have been restored.
The Truth Is Revealed[]
“ | To every story there is more than one telling | ” |
— Monkey to Tripitaka
|
That evening, Tripitaka accuses Monkey of killing a God and stealing the sacred scrolls. He tells her that to every story, there is more than one telling. She asks Monkey where he is going and where the scrolls are. He informs her that he needs to find an old friend and that the scrolls are safe. He then looks back and sees that Tripitaka is gone. So Monkey returns to Monica’s tavern. He gives her one of his golden bangles to pay for the damages caused. He saw her altar out back. He needs help finding a demon who specializes in the abduction of little boys, particularly monks.
Monkey tracks Tripitaka down and saves her from Sandy, who he initially perceives as a threat. He chokes her with his staff even as Tripitaka asks him to stop. She recalls the chant Gaxin performed and recites it, which appears to have some sort of effect on Monkey’s crown, which in turn causes him pain. He releases Sandy, and Tripitaka explains that she's a god. Unfortunately, they’ve been found by Locke’s guards, who are pumping gas into Sandy’s lair, forcing the three of them to flee out of a back entrance. There, he tells them about the seven scrolls, each hidden in a different continent. Without his cloud, it would take years to retrieve them. So Monkey tries calling his cloud again, but it doesn’t appear. Instead, they hitch a ride with Pigsy, who’s disguised as an ordinary villager. Once they get into the back of his carriage, he locks them inside and joins the Font Demon.
Monkey and Sandy awaken in a cell with collars around their neck, chaining them to the walls. Sandy tells him that the prison was built to hold gods. Monkey asks Sandy why she didn’t leave town. Sandy reveals that she was born into a world where gods didn’t exist. All she ever knew was hiding. She did it so long that she couldn’t see any other way. She then asks Monkey if he’s ever been in love, but he doesn’t want to answer. Sandy realizes there is a fissure in the wall. She attempts to use her abilities to draw water towards the wall in order to break it but it turns out its a sewer pipe.
With Pigsy’s help, Tripitaka breaks Monkey and Sandy free from their cell. Locke arrives at the cell to find them escaping. Pigsy stays behind, rips off all his jewelry, everything Locke’s ever given him, and tells her that he will no longer serve her. She asks who will take care of her. He replies that she can take care of herself. Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy find themselves surrounded by the Font Demon and Locke, forcing them into a fight. Monkey takes out the Font Demon whilst Sandy and Pigsy dispatch Locke and her guards. Pigsy speaks to the people of Palawa. He offers them their freedom and tells them of his plans to rid the town of demons, starting with imprisoning Locke.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy then set off on their journey west to recover the sacred scrolls.
500 years ago, Monkey hid all seven sacred scrolls on seven different continents, each with a letter that said "Guard with your life."
Present day, Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy travel to the Mountain of Fruit and Flowers for the first sacred scroll. Having traveled for days, they take a dip in the lake. All except Tripitaka, who they still believe to be a boy monk. They’re suddenly ambushed by a group of bandits, with the leader, Affe, claiming to be the Monkey King. He claims they protect the King’s relics from demons. Monkey defeats Affe with little difficulty and reveals that he’s ,in fact, the Monkey King. Affe and the Monkey Clan chant his name.
Monkey feasts with the Affe and Monkey Clan. 500 years ago, they’re forefathers made a promise to protect the sacred scroll. Jiro and Bobbo ask to see his powers, but due to his many years of imprisonment, some of his powers have diminished. Monkey calls upon the Monkey Clan to join him as his army.
Tripitaka reminds Monkey that they came to the Mountain of Fruits and Flowers to retrieve the sacred scroll, not build an army. However, Monkey isn’t interested in Scholar and Tripitaka’s rebellion. Enraged by his selfishness, Tripitaka chants to inflict pain on Monkey via his crown. Unbeknownst to the two of them, Affe watches from nearby.
Affe, Jiro, and Bobbo lead Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy on the path to the sacred scroll. They come across the ancient fire wasps. It’s up to Bobbo to disarm the trap. He disables the first trap but trips the second trap.
Monkey, Sandy, Pigsy, Jiro, and Bobbo arrive at a shrine, which contains the scroll, but it is guarded by automatic spears that pierce upward from within the ground.
Monkey binds his staff to Sandy’s staff and Pigsy’s rake in hopes of using it to retrieve the scroll. However, the pikes suddenly stop moving, allowing them to walk over to the shrine and grab the scroll, only to discover that the case is empty. Affe returns and reveals to Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Pigsy, Jiro, and Bobbo that his family sold the scroll to a demon generations ago. Affe declares himself the one, true Monkey King and orders Monkey to kill Tripitaka. He performs the chant but nothing happens. Sandy explains that the chant will only work for those righteous and pure of heart. As Affe is about to reveal the truth about Tripitaka, he trips and falls onto a spike. Afterward, Jiro and Bobbo lead them on the path out of the Mountains.
Monkey informs Tripitaka that these scrolls are written in an ancient language. Demons can’t decode it, only gods. However, Tripitaka reveals that the scholar taught her how to read it.
As Monkey and Tripitaka return to camp with firewood, they hear music playing. Suddenly, Monkey freezes in place and becomes completely unresponsive. He is taken by Raxion and placed in the breaking ground by Shaman. Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy awaken in Monica’s tavern. She tells them to eat up and get ready for the best night of their lives. Everything is on the house. Monica asks if they like games. Sandy and Pigsy admit that they do.
In the first round, Monica offers up two bags of gold and a wagon full of town goodies. Monica tells them that it’s a memory game; all they have to do is write down the things they remember. She tells them to translate the God’s language. Sandy and Pigsy are engulfed in the game, but Monkey remains suspicious and refuses to write.
Sandy and Pigsy continue to translate whilst Monkey watches. Monica informs them that there are prizes for accuracy and speed during the game, but Monkey remains uninteresting and skeptical. So he approaches the man sitting alone at a table and asks who taught him how to read the word of gods. He replies "The Master." Monkey then recognizes the man as Lior. They trained together at Jade Mountain. Lior then tries to convince Monkey to play the game and translate the sacred scrolls.
Monica starts the next round. While Sandy and Pigsy translate the scrolls, Monkey tells Lior that he needs his help in getting back to Jade Mountain. Lior is sorry for what happened to Monkey, who asks Lior how long he has been at the tavern. Before he can reply, Monica tells Monkey to start translating scrolls. Lior offers to show Monkey. Sandy tries to encourage Monkey to play as she doesn’t want to lose. Lior on the other hand, seems to be aware that they aren’t in the real world and tells Monkey that playing along is the only way to survive.
Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy suddenly realize that Lior is gone, but then the fourth round commences. Monica claims that Lior went home and asks Monkey to step up. Monkey then reveals that he doesn’t know how to read the gods’ language. He never learned. Monkey realizes that no one had come or gone through the door since they arrived. He’s determined to see what’s beyond the tavern.
After realizing that Pigsy is missing, Monkey walks towards the door. He tells Sandy that he’s innocent and needs to go back and find him. Sandy asks who he is going back to find. And then Sandy disappears from the table. Monica tells Monkey to come back to eat and have fun. Monkey reaches the door, but then the Shaman appears to him. He warns Monkey that in opening that door, he’ll be going too deep into his own mind. And once that happens, there’s no going back. Instead, he asks Monkey to come back with him. Monkey refuses. Even as he hears Tripitaka calling out to him, Monkey opens the door to his past.
500 years ago, Monkey was but a student at Jade Mountain. Master tells Monkey that he must first learn the language of the gods before he can train. Monkey is unique, which is why they brought him to the temple. Monkey inquires about the crown that Master has on display. He explains that they keep it because it is a memory of the days before gods understood that they didn’t need a king.
Monkey exits the palace to find Lior on guard. He tells Monkey to be on guard because the demons are watching and waiting for the right time to attack. Rather than watching the fortress, Monkey watches the show, allowing a demon ninja to sneak inside. He lunges at Master, but Monkey counters his attack and performs the Three Son combination. Lior questions how the demon got past the gate, which was undoubtedly Monkey’s fault.
Davari throws food and playfully picks a fight with Monkey, though he is in no joking mood. He sarcastically asks what’s wrong with a warrior being a warrior. Davari informs Monkey that they’re likely training him to become a master, so they look for more from him rather than just being a warrior.
Master accuses Monkey of leaving his post and inviting danger into the palace. As head of the guard, it’s Monkey’s responsibility to protect the palace. Monkey would like to step down as head of the guard and become a master. A master must bring out the best in those that they teach, so Master tasks Monkey with bringing out the flower bloom of a bud. However, Monkey fails miserably. Monkey tries again, but the results are the same. Master blames himself for failing Monkey.
Monkey tells Davari that he’s leaving Jade Mountain to build his own kingdom back home. Davari tries to convince him to stay, claiming that the gods belittle him and look down on him despite the fact that he could destroy them all. He tells Monkey that he’s a king and deserves a crown.
Monkey steals the crown from Master’s home. Master awakens and tells Monkey that a crown does not make a king. They all make mistakes, which can be mended. Master is then killed by an invisible demon. The demon ninja becomes visible and attacks Monkey, but flees after realizing he’s outmatched. Monkey checks on Master, who with his dying breath, tells Monkey that the demons are coming for the sacred scrolls. He tells Monkey to take the scrolls and hide them. Lior enters Master’s home to find him dead on the ground and Monkey escaping with the scrolls. Monkey is forced to flee on his cloud, forever looked at by his people as a traitor.
Monkey briefly awakens and asks Tripitaka to help him find his way. She recites the chant and manages to join Monkey in his mind. They go back to the moment that the demon ninja fled. Monkey and Tripitaka follow him and discover that Davari was in fact the killer. As Master wished, Monkey scattered the scrolls across the world, but he was apprehended and brought back to Jade Mountain to answer for his alleged crimes. Gwen sentenced him to be imprisoned in stone for killing Master. After Monkey was sent away, Lior reported that they were under attack by the demons. And this was the beginning of dark times. Both Monkey and Tripitaka awaken. Monkey realizes that Davari used him in order to conquer the world and defeat the gods while they were weak.
Monkey gets to his feet and takes down the demon warriors one-by-one. He then uses his staff to break free of the seal, allowing Tripitaka, Sandy, Pigsy, and himself to escape. Shaman warns him that in doing so, he could contaminate the spaces and destroy everything, but Monkey persists. He then turns his attention to Shaman, who threatens to level the entire area with a bomb. Tripitaka recognizes the device as the one that destroyed her home and encourages Monkey to leave.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy flee from the Shaman and Raxion. They enter Kin territory. While escaping persecution, Tripitaka is separated from the group; taken by one of the Kin. Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy go looking from her. Tripitaka has been saved by Gwen. Monkey and Tripitaka recognize her from his trial. She realizes that she was wrong for sending Monkey away, and she’s spent the last 500 years trying to right that wrong. She then offers to lead them out of the forest.
After a brief encounter with the Kin, Tripitaka discovers that she's been poisoned. Gwen asks Monkey what did the scholar tell him about Tripitaka, however, Monkey never got to meet him as it was Tripitaka who released him. He adds that Tripitaka also rescued them from the Shaman. Thanks to Gwen, Tripitaka awakens the following morning perfectly healthy.
They near the edge of the forest. They can hear the Kin approaching. Gwen takes cover with Tripitaka while Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy each take on a Kin. Monkey hears Tripitaka shout his name. He kills Spider Kin with his staff and rushes to Tripitaka. By the time he arrives, Tripitaka has kicked Raxion off a cliff.
They regroup to find Gwen dying from poison. She tells Monkey to protect Tripitaka at all costs.
Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy awaken to find Tripitaka gone, leaving nothing behind but a letter. Sandy wants to go after her, but Monkey wants to go to Jade Mountain to stop whoever is collecting the scrolls. Sandy tells Monkey and Pigsy to head towards Jade Mountain to track down the scrolls while she follows Tripitaka. They’re to meet outside of the palace in two day’s time.
Monkey and Pigsy head for Jade Mountain. They hear nearby noise. Pigsy uses his rake to determine which way the noise is coming from. They come across Raxion and his men. They devise a plan to press Raxion for answers. Monkey and Pigsy set a trap for the demons. Pigsy ties Monkey to a tree and uses him as bait. Raxion finds Monkey tied to a tree and takes him away.
Raxion has brought Monkey back to his camp. Ever since Monkey showed up, he’s suffered a cut in wages and a subsequent loss of status. Raxion reveals that his boss has a personal grudge against Monkey and was putting everything into his capture. Pigsy arrives, kills the demons, and interrogates Raxion for answers. He tells them that they’ll need him to make it to Jade Mountain and find out who has the sacred scrolls.
Raxion sneaks Monkey and Pigsy inside the palace on a cart. They exit the barrels to find the Font Demon escorting Tripitaka away. Monkey and Pigsy follow close behind. Tripitaka is greeted by Davari. He tells her that together, they will change the world.
Raxion warns Monkey and Pigsy that Davari is getting closer to translating his scroll. Raxion reveals that Davari’s weakness is that he wants to be liked. So once a week, he goes out amongst his people. His route is pre-planned. They can attack then.
The following day, Davari shows Tripitaka around town. Monkey fires an arrow, but misses, forcing him and Pigsy to flee. Monkey and Pigsy flee from Davari’s guards. A local villager named Shamai offers them a safe haven in his shop. He introduces them to his partner, Lusio, and his sons, Silver and Oak. They’ve lived in the Jade Mountains for generations. They’re the hidden resistance and have been waiting for the return of the Monkey King.
Monkey and Pigsy discuss their next course of action and with Shamai and Lusio, who reveals that Davari is holding a banquet for the most powerful demons in the land, and they’ve been hired as musicians for the event. Shamai recalls the Scholar mentioning a monk and wants to wait, but they reveal that she’s been captured.
Monkey takes an elixir that allows him to turn invisible so that he can infiltrate Davari’s palace and rescue Tripitaka. Once inside the cell, Tripitaka reveals that she’s a girl. Tripitaka then informs Monkey that the sacred scroll Davari has will grant immortality, and if Tripitaka doesn’t translate for him, Davari will kill more gods. So she wants to stay and stop Davari from the inside.
Monkey takes the rest of the elixir and sneaks into Davari’s chamber. However, Davari is aware of his presence and forces Monkey to become visible. Monkey draws his staff and attacks Davari. However, he finds himself surrounded by Davari and his guards. So he jumps off the balcony into the abyss and grabs onto the side of the cliff. Before rejoining Pigsy, Shamai, and Lusio.
Monkey, Pigsy, Shamai and Lusio prepare for the banquet. They’ll need a disguise to enter the banquet. There will be a play. Pigsy will be disguised as the Monkey King whilst Monkey will be a guard.
Monkey wonders how they’ll get into the palace to rescue Tripitaka. They have no plan past the banquet. Pigsy tells him one step at a time. If they take down Davari, they can then take the palace. Monkey then reveals to Pigsy that Tripitaka is a girl. Despite being lied to, Pigsy still trusts and believes in Tripitaka.
They get on stage to perform. Pigsy is the Monkey King. Shamai is Master. Lusio is the narrator, Oak is Davari, and Monkey and Silver are guards. After the play, Davari comes out. Davari has successfully translated the scroll for immortality. Monkey, Pigsy, Shamai, and Lusio prepare to attack, however, Davari is aware of their plans and orders his guards to take Silver and Oak captive.
Tripitaka and Sandy arrive with the demons under their control. Tripitaka and Davari go missing during the commotion. Monkey finds Davari in his chamber performing the immortality spell. However, Shaman presents him with a choice: either he saves Tripitaka from going over the balcony or he stops Davari. Tripitaka encourages him to stop Davari. As he inches towards Davari, Shaman sends Tripitaka flying over the balcony, down to the abyss. Monkey jumps off the balcony after her.
Monkey conjures his cloud and saves Tripitaka. Monkey goes towards Davari, but he is far too powerful. He incapacitates Monkey, as well as Sandy and Pigsy. Shaman then activates one of the suction devices that engulfed Tripitaka’s home. She grabs it and throws it at Davari. It latches onto his chest and imprisons him inside. He struggles to fight his way out, but instead goes flying off the balcony.
Season 2[]
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy are being hunted by Kimura and a an army of demons after killing Davari and escaping with the Immortality Scroll. The others stay behind to fight off the demons whilst Tripitaka tries to escape with the scroll. Kimura chases her down and grabs the scroll. Monkey knocks him to the ground, and he and Tripitaka escape with the gods they rescued from Davari. Monkey instructs Lior and the other gods to take refuge in Western Mountains.
journey to the Archive of the Infinite Scrolls. However, Monkey decides to travel on his own as his cloud can’t carry all four of them. Monkey arrives at the Archive of Infinite Scrolls, where he encounters Scribe, a servant of the scrolls, whose life is dedicated to protecting them. He forbids Monkey from passing and draws his pen. Monkey is defeated by the Scribe and sent back to Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy without his hands.
Tripitaka is reluctant to use the Immortality Scroll to regenerate Monkey’s hand, but they don’t have any other option, so they start by searching for a pepper bud flower. Whilst Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy search for the flower, Pigsy is on guard. They cross paths with a woman named Mycelia, who explains that the forest has special herbs that can’t be found anywhere else. She reveals that they’re standing in the Graveyard of the Gods. Pigsy arrives with the flower. Mycelia tells him that he shouldn’t have picked a pepper bud flower. One has to pull it up by the roots. A mist-like substance leaves the flower, and the four of them suddenly start to sneeze before passing out. Monkey awakens and, she tells him to stay put for seven hours while his hands grow back.
Once Monkey’s hands have been restored, he, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy journey to the Archive of Infinite Scrolls, where Scribe guards the entry. He uses a spell to attack them with knives, arrows, hammers, stones, and wind. Monkey launches his staff at the Scribe and knocks him down. Scribe apologies and allows them entry. They enter the Archive. The door locks behind them and eventually disappears all together.
As Tripitaka translates the scrolls to Monkey, which depict him in an unflattering manner, Sandy and Pigsy attempt to explain that they can’t talk. When Monkey demands that the Librarian free his friends of her spell, she does the same to Monkey — forcing his hand to his lips, making him unable to speak. Tripitaka quietly explains that they’re looking for the sacred scrolls. Tripitaka asks which one she has. The Librarian replies with a riddle: "It is the answer to every question you’ve got. When you think you have it, you have it not." She leaves and suddenly Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy can talk again. Tripitaka discovers that the answer is knowledge, meaning they’re looking for the Scroll of Knowledge. A door then opens behind them.
They follow the Librarian to a room filled with color-coded warrior statues. She reads the next riddle: "After the reign of chaos, there is order in the heavens." The statues come alive, proving too powerful for the gods to attack. Tripitaka recalls the riddle and realizes that the warriors have to be defeated in the right order. She adds that it’s the same order of the rainbow and so Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy attack according to each warrior's color.
The four of them proceed further into the Archive, where they find a peach. The Librarian reveals the riddle: "A peach. Just a peach. It is a peach." Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy closely analyze the peach. They are joined by Cranius, who reveals the answer to the riddle of the peach. She takes them to the closed reserve. The Librarian tells them that only three of them can face the final challenge along with Cranius. They let Tripitaka decide who will sit out and she chooses Monkey. However, in that decision, the Librarian reveals that they’ve chosen Monkey to face off with Cranius. She spells Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy’s mouth shut before reading the final riddle: "The Scroll of Knowledge is in this very room. Take the wrong one home and your head goes boom."
While Cranius searches, Monkey is only interested in his reflection from the mirror scroll. Cranius believes that the Scroll of Knowledge is the blank scroll and leaves with it. Monkey is upset that they didn’t trust him and chooses to do nothing while Sandy and Pigsy attack, but he predicts their move, knocking them down, as well as Tripitaka. Monkey claims that Cranius left with the wrong scroll and that the real Scroll of Knowledge is the mirror scroll, but Tripitaka realizes that the Librarian actually has the Scroll of Knowledge in her hand.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy continue their search for the next scroll. Unbeknownst to them, they are being followed by Kaedo.
They continue their journey for the next sacred scroll. They reach a village, where they learn that the villagers are being hassled by the squid demon, Lady Tsumori. They awaken the following morning as Sandy is accused of stealing children in the night. Monkey claims that they're innocent and offers to protect by digging a trench so that they aren’t as vulnerable. However, it is Pigsy who does most of the digging. After digging the trench, Monkey and Pigsy plant bombs and argue over just how to hide the explosives. Pigsy settle on creating a safe passage way with white stones.
Monkey arranges a search party for another missing child. Monkey and Pigsy discover a hole in the perimeter. They find themselves surrounded by the bombs they set without a safe passage, however, with a child in danger, they travel the path nonetheless. Monkey and Pigsy find the missing boy Omari trapped in a net. They ask why he ran away. He explains that he wants to be with his friends.
Rather than running through the field of bombs, Monkey calls his cloud to take himself, Pigsy, and the child back to the village, but it doesn’t come, though, they are joined by Sandy and return to the village with the children.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Kaedo, and Pigsy travel through the Valley of Despair in search for the Scroll of Creation. Mothrax releases a gas that makes Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy overly affectionate. While they’re distracted with each other, Mothrax retrieves the Scrolls of Immortality and Knowledge. However, when Sandy sprays Tripitaka, Monkey, and Pigsy with water, the potion wears off.
As Mothrax escapes with the sacred scrolls, Hagfish trips her and binds her with rope. Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Kaedo, and Pigsy arrive, and Hagfish pretends to be a helpless victim. He claims that he’s a puppeteer who only desires to create a puppet show about a legendary hero such as Monkey. He then offers to lead them to the road.
Tripitaka awakens Monkey, Sandy, Pigsy from their sleep to inform them the scrolls are missing. Pigsy suspects it’s Hagfish, but he controls Tripitaka into saying that it was Kaedo who stole the scrolls. They find the scrolls under his pillow and force him to leave.
They come to a crossroads. Pigsy would like to part ways with Hagfish, but Tripitaka comes to his offense and tells Pigsy to clear obstacles ahead. Monkey and Sandy are unsure of what to do and start to suspect that Pigsy is right and that Tripitaka isn’t herself. They ask Tripitaka about the scrolls, but she hasn’t a clue what they’re referring to as she’s being controlled by Hagfish, who then notices Kaedo watching them and claims that he’s after the scroll.
Monkey and Sandy chase after Kaedo, who has circled back and catches Hagfish in the process of killing Tripitaka. Gorm arrives soon thereafter with Pigsy, who is barely conscious. Monkey reaches for his staff but Gorm has it. Without his staff, Monkey and Sandy battle against Gorm. Tripitaka notices that Kaedo has disappeared. She then uses Mothrax' love gas, forcing Gorm and Hagfish to flee with the scrolls.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy wheel Pigsy on a cart. Sandy’s plant starts to wither as they continue down the path to the Scroll of Creation. However, it starts to bloom as they head down the right path, the path that'll save Pigsy. The flower leads them to Mycelia, who heals Pigsy. Monkey is treated like a celebrity by the villagers. Tripitaka and Sandy try to get him to remember their mission, but he has the guards take them away. In hopes of forcing Monkey to remember, Tripitaka performs the Headache Sutra, which causes him to regain his memory and join Tripitaka and Sandy.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy find the Scroll of Creation, but they are confronted by Mycelia. She refuses to willingly give them the scroll and calls her “children” to defend it. They discover her children are actually mushroom people/fungal creatures. With the death of each one, Mycelia feels heartache. As Monkey fights off the mushroom people, Sandy demands that Mycelia release the scroll as Tripitaka can’t seem to retrieve it from inside the tree. Tripitaka calls out to the Scroll of Creation and summons a saw to cut the scroll free, however, she hurts her hand in the process. In retrieving the scroll, Mycelia disappears. Sandy goes to free Pigsy while Monkey and Tripitaka escape.
Monkey and Tripitaka wait for Sandy and Pigsy to join them, but they are under attack. Monkey catches an arrow fired in their direction. However, their attacker is merely a young boy named Chou. He takes them to the camp, where his family has been taken hostage by the Blue Hand demon army. Monkey comes up with an idea for him and Tripitaka to disguise themselves as two farmers so that they can infiltrate the army. Tripitaka fears that something is wrong with the Scroll of Creation. It’s meant to be written in the ancient language, but it seems like Mycelia translated it. Tripitaka believes that the saw she summoned with the scroll was deliberately made to hurt her. However, Tripitaka needs boots if she’s to pass as a farmer, so Monkey encourages her to use the scroll to summon a pair.
Monkey and Tripitaka join the Blue Hand and convene in a village with Sandy and Pigsy. Moggoth separates the villagers into pairs and orders them to fight to the death. However, Monkey and Tripitaka refuse. Dreglon demands for Monkey to kneel and orders Tripitaka to fight. He raises his axe to kill Monkey, who punches Dreglon and sends him flying several feet into the air. General Khan intervenes after hearing their story and learning that their farm was attacked by the Monkey King. She demands that Tripitaka and Monkey are brought to her tent.
Khan questions Monkey and Tripitaka regarding the circumstances of their encounter with the Monkey King. Satisfied with their help, she wants Tripitaka and Monkey to become her servants. However, Dreglon insists that Monkey and Tripitaka belong to him. As Monkey and Tripitaka exit their tent, Sandy, under her ruse as Lady Wrathbone, demands that they help her and Pigsy serve gruel. Tripitaka takes off the boots she summoned with the scroll to see that both of her feet are infected.
Dreglon and Khan have come to an agreement. Monkey will fight Khan’s champion and prove the Blue Hand are real soldiers. But if he loses, the Hand will become servants for Khan’s Red Guard. Tripitaka prepares Monkey for his fight and reminds him that he’s supposed to be a human. He then faces off with Kaedo. Tripitaka tells Monkey to stay down but he continues to fight Kaedo. With Monkey refusing to stand down, Tripitaka performs Headache Sutra to force him down. And with that, the Red Guards take control of the Blue Hand.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Kaedo, and Pigsy plot their next move. Kaedo reveals that the rebels have gathered at Lion Heart Rock. But Tripitaka and Monkey want to see what is inside the gold envelope Mothrax brought to Khan from Gorm.
Pigsy distracts Khan while Monkey and Kaedo try to steal the key to her vault. After successfully doing so, they try to follow her into her tent, but the valet turns them away. And so, Monkey and Kaedo plot with Tripitaka to take out Khan’s valet. As the valet takes care of Khan’s laundry, Kaedo shoots him with a dart, allowing Tripitaka to steal his clothes.
Pigsy feeds Khan while Monkey and Kaedo help Tripitaka break into her safe to steal the gold envelope, but when Khan kicks everyone out so that she may be alone with Pigsy, they are forced to leave empty handed. Later, while Pigsy feeds Khan desert, Kaedo is lowered into her tent by Monkey and breaks into her safe. However, all three of them are caught and sentenced to be executed.
Khan prepares to execute Monkey, Kaedo, and Pigsy. However, the stew prepared by Sandy causes the guards’ stomachs to bubble, rendering them useless. Sandy arrives and attacks Khan before freeing Monkey, Kaedo, and Pigsy. Tripitaka then returns Monkey's staff, which he uses to defeat Gorm and escape.
After taking out Dreglon's men, they come face-to-face with Dreglon, but Monica arrives and says to keep him alive. She’s come for Tripitaka and takes them to Lion Heart Rock, where they learn that Gaxin, the real Tripitaka is alive.
Gaxin takes Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy before the rebellion and prays for them to be led to victory against the nearing war with Gorm's army. Monkey then begins training the rebels who have little to no fighting ability.
Monkey decides to join Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy after they release Dreglon and follow him to Hagfish.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy have tracked Dreglon to the Broken Temple. Monkey reveals that god powers don’t work at the Broken Temple. Before he killed Demon Queen Hakuru, she put a curse over the temple. They enter the Broken Temple and sneak past the guards. They are spotted by Mothrax. Pigsy lights a fire, and she transforms into a moth and flies directly into the flame.
Monkey confronts Hagfish and demands that he hand over the sacred scrolls. Monkey proposes a swap; the Scroll of Creation in exchange for the Scrolls of Immortality and Knowledge. Monkey keeps him distracted while Tripitaka sneaks over to the box with all of the puppets inside. Hagfish approaches Monkey and agrees to his proposition. However, he double crosses Monkey and orders his men to attack. After dispatching the guards, Monkey kills Dreglon. However, Hagfish then uses the Scroll of Creation to bind Monkey and Tripitaka with ropes. Pigsy attempts to distract Hagfish long enough for Sandy to grab the scrolls, but they fail as well.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy are strung up in the chamber. Tripitaka blames Monkey for ruining the plan. Hagfish intends to create an evil god. He lowers Monkey down and takes a lock of hair. He attaches the hair to a Monkey doll and places the doll inside a barrel of black goo in hopes of creating an evil version of Monkey with the corrupt Scroll of Creation. Gorm returns with Monica in hand. Monkey kicks him to the ground and Monica removes the pins. As she attempts to remove the final pin, Gorm kills her. With a single pin remaining in Gorm, Cranius decides to remove it. Gorm is free of his control. Shadow Monkey intervenes. As he and Gorm battle, Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy escape with all the immortality and knowledge scrolls. Monkey stays long enough to watch as his evil counterpart kills Gorm.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy discuss their next move. Monkey proposes they ask where to find the real Tripitaka. The scroll tells them to travel to where earth, wind, fire, and water meet. Tripitaka suspects that it must be the Burnt Sands. However, they find themselves near a village under attack by Hagfish and Shadow Monkey.
Monkey arrives on his cloud and challenges Shadow Monkey to a fight, but their moves are identical, making it impossible for there to be a winner. Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy arrive and remind Monkey of their mission. Shadow Monkey has grown tired of taking orders from Hagfish and tries to attack him. Hagfish uses the scroll to hurt Shadow Monkey. So Monkey comes to his aid, allowing Shadow Monkey to gain control of the scroll and kill Hagfish. He now looks to Monkey to kill Tripitaka. When Monkey refuses, Shadow Monkey departs on his own.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy find Gaxin. They tell him that he can redeem himself by leading them to the Scroll of Creation. He checks the perimeter and finds Shadow Monkey in the woods. He now understands that Tripitaka is Monkey’s friend and that he shouldn’t have asked Monkey to kill her. They proceed to spar in the clearing. Afterward, Shadow Monkey tries to persuade Monkey into abandoning his quest and joining him, but Monkey refuses. So Shadow Monkey decides to get rid of Tripitaka in hopes it'll persuade his brother to abandon his mission.
Soon after the fall of Jade Mountain, a great tree sprouted. Gaxin suspects that’s where they’ll find the real Scroll of Creation. Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Gaxin, and Pigsy travel to the Burnt Sands, where they are greeted by Mycelia, the Guardian of the Scroll of Creation. She reveals the scroll is beneath the tree. Gaxin crawls inside but he can’t reach the scroll. Mycelia traps Gaxin inside and declares that the scroll belongs to her. If she hands over the scroll then she will perish. While Pigsy helps Gaxin, Monkey, Tripitaka, and Sandy fight off the fungal creatures and Timothee.
Shadow Monkey arrives at Burnt Sands and takes Tripitaka. Monkey follows him through the portal to the Broken Temple. With no powers, Monkey is forced to rely on skill, but Shadow Monkey is too powerful. When Monkey refuses to kill Tripitaka, Shadow Monkey offers to do it himself. Monkey tells Shadow Monkey to stop as he will join him. He claims that he owes the gods nothing and that Tripitaka will spend the rest of her days knowing she failed. He then pulls Shadow Monkey in for a hug, grabs the shadow Scroll of Creation and crushes it, bringing Shadow Monkey great pain. Before leaving, he tells Monkey he will return the favor and take his scroll.
Monkey and Tripitaka return to Burnt Sands on his cloud. He tells Shadow Monkey to return to the shadows or else he’ll tear the scroll in half. Mycelia reveals that the only way to destroy the Shadow Scroll is to fly it into the sun. Monkey hands the Scroll of Immortality and Knowledge over to Tripitaka and flies away on his cloud. Tripitaka chants and performs the Headache Sutra to bring him back but he continues his journey. With the Shadow Scroll, Monkey flies into the sun and kills Shadow Monkey. Later, on a mountain far away, Monkey emerges from an egg. Reborn anew.

But multiple rifts in their relationship are created when Tripitaka willingly uses the Crown Sutra on him, cognizant that it causes him anguish. Monkey feels as if he is forced to join Tripitaka on her quest. When she asks if he's going to join her, he says "Well, I don't have a choice now, do I?" He questions his trust in her. He asks Pigsy if he can trust Tripitaka. Pigsy says that all people make mistakes, but Tripitaka has risked her life to help them, so they should trust her. They bond with each other when Monkey is growing his hands back (see Graveyard of the Gods for more details.) Tripitaka teaches him how to read in write in the ancient god language. But Monkeys loyalty to her wavers. He was the only one to stick to Gaxins side, while Sand and Pigsy stuck to Tripitaka. But Monkey thereafter realized his mistake and the bang banded back together. When Shadow Monkey told MOnkey to kill Tripitaka, Monkey refused. When Shadow Monkey kidnapped Tripitaka and told Monkey they should kill her, Monkey said that they should let her life because the worst thing for her to handle is knowing that she failed. Tripitaka is relieved when Monkey turns against Shadow Monkey and takes his scroll. Monkey comes to Mycelia for help. He is willing to kill himself if it will save Tripitaka. He flies into the Sun knowing that his friend will be safe.

Monkey mistook Sandy for a Demon and attacked her, choking her, but was soon stopped by Tripitaka. After Sandy had explained herself, Monkey accepted her as an acquaintance and teammate. They journeyed together but had very few interactions, as Sandy was closer to Pigsy than she was to Monkey. Even though they haven't had memorable moments together, Sandy was still concerned whenever Monkey was in danger or placed in a very volatile situation.[1]
Monkey and Pigsy[]
- Main article: Monkey and Pigsy
Monkey and Pigsy are close friends. At the beginning of the series they were enemies, but thanks to a persuasive argument from Tripitaka, Pigsy joined the team on the quest. Monkey never acknowledged his treatment of Pigsy, but usually shrugged it off. They both learn to treat one another with respect. Often, Monkey mistakes Pigsy as some kind of body guard to to his size and weight. He frequently tells Pigsy to stay on guard while him and his friends adventure. But his sacrifice at the end of the series proves his loyalty towards his friend.
