Summary
Pigsy reports the damage that the village suffered during the demon attack to Princess Locke. He claimed he was searching for a crown. Locke orders Pigsy to find out who’s crown the demon was searching for.
Tripitaka tells Monkey that they’re just outside the town of Palawa. He plucks an underarm hair and gives it to her — a gift for her monastery to show thanks for reviving him and keeping his staff safe. He tries to summon his cloud but it doesn’t appear. Tripitaka tells him that they must now retrieve the sacred scrolls and journey West. She warns Monkey that demons have taken over the world during his 500 year imprisonment and that many won’t be happy to hear of his return.
Tripitaka takes him to the tavern. He questions why his crown won’t come off his head. Monica approaches. She doesn’t initially recognize Tripitaka, but asks if she has money to pay for their food. Tripitaka assures her they do. Tripitaka then tells Monkey that the demons have ruled for hundreds of years. Passing off the legends of the Gods as myths. But her master, the scholar, taught her the truth. He was part of a resistance movement to save Monkey, find the sacred scrolls and journey West. Tripitaka believes that’s where the resistance is based. However, she realizes that Monkey isn’t interested in her cause.
Tripitaka returns to the monastery to learn that the demon killed four young monks. She reveals that she’s released the Monkey King and that he even gave her a hair as a reward.
While trying to remove the crown from his head with a fork at the tavern, he accidentally stabs a mercenary. The man refuses Monkey’s apology and puts food on his head. Monkey retaliates and a fight ensues. It’s during the battle that his power seems to have been restored.
The patron from the tavern reveals to Princess Locke and Pigsy that there was a demon in the who took out five mercenaries without even drawing a weapon.
The monk explains to Tripitaka that centuries ago, the Monkey King killed one of the ancient Gods and stole the sacred scrolls. It was the Gods, not the demons, whom placed Monkey in stone, to protect the world from his furious power. The monk adds that Scholar was once part of their order many years ago. He developed strange ideas and went searching for answers outside of their teaching. Tripitaka realizes that she Scholar had lied to her for all those years.
Tripitaka returns to the tavern to find Pigsy questioning Monica about the Monkey King. She tells him how he destroyed her tavern and exited swiftly. Pigsy asks if the man was with anyone. She looks over at Tripitaka, peeking from around the corner, and says that the man was alone.
A young boy sitting on his porch notices Tripitaka out alone at night. He warns her that there is a demon on the loose and brings her something to eat. He introduces himself as Zeek. They suddenly find themselves under attack by a pale skinned demon woman. She attacks Zeek with her bladed staff, but he dodges the attack and runs away, with the demon chasing behind him, leaving a trail of blue smoke in her path. Tripitaka loses their trail but finds Monkey. Tripitaka confronts Monkey with the fact that he killed a God and stole the sacred scrolls. He tells her that to every story, there is more than one telling. She asks Monkey where he is going and where the scrolls are. He informs her that he needs to find an old friend and that the scrolls are safe.
Tripitaka is taken by Sandy to her lair. She then asks Tipitaka who she is, to which she replies that she’s merely a monk, but Sandy isn’t convinced.
Monkey returns to Monica’s tavern. He gives her one of his golden bangles to pay for the damages caused. He saw her altar out back. He needs help finding a demon who specializes in the abduction of little boys, particularly monks.
Again, Sandy asks why Tripitaka is in Palawa. When she reveals her name, Sandy bows down to her. The scholar told her that one day a monk named Tripitaka would appear and that Sandy was to help him. Despite Sandy’s appearance, she is not a demon, rather a God. And the boy she was chasing, wasn’t a boy at all, but the Font Demon disguising himself.
The Font Demon appears to Pigsy and tells him to inform Locke that there’s good money to be made in the capture of the Monkey King.
Monkey tracks Tripitaka down and saves her from Sandy, who he initially perceives as a threat. He chokes her with his staff even as Tripitaka asks him to stop. She recalls the chant Gaxin performed and recites it, which appears to have some sort of effect on Monkey’s crown, which in turn causes him pain. He releases Sandy, and Tripitaka explains that she's a god. Unfortunately, they’ve been found by Locke’s guards, who are pumping gas into Sandy’s lair, forcing the three of them to flee out of a back entrance. There, he tells them about the seven scrolls, each hidden in a different continent. Without his cloud, it would take years to retrieve them. So Monkey tries calling his cloud again, but it doesn’t appear. Instead, they hitch a ride with Pigsy, who’s disguised as an ordinary villager. Once they get into the back of his carriage, he locks them inside and joins the Font Demon.

Notes and Trivia
- As well as changing the basic plot, the powers of the main characters are different. None can shape-change, which Monkey does a lot. No one can except one demon.
- Meantime Sandy has been given the power to 'dematerialise, which is new. (Also he is now she, but that is just one of many changes of background.)
