Plot synopsis[]
A demon jeopardizes the trio's quest before it even begins. Tripitaka makes a startling discovery about Pigsy, who makes a momentous decision.
Summary[]
Pigsy returns to Princess Locke with the Monkey King, Tripitaka, and Sandy. The Font Demon gives them half of the payment now and the other half after the exchange is made. Locke then orders Pigsy to kill the monk.
Pigsy takes Tripitaka to the woods, but rather than killing her as ordered by Locke, he sends her off to safety and tells her to never return. She questions why he hasn’t simply killed her. He’s neither demon nor human. So she asks what he is. He raises his rake, calling on the lightning above, and again, he tells her to leave.
Monkey and Sandy awaken in a cell with collars around their neck, chaining them to the walls. Sandy tells him that the prison was built to hold gods.
Monica serves Pigsy at her tavern. She tells him that he should be ashamed of himself. Monica asks him about the monk he took. Pigsy reveals that he didn’t kill the monk. He’s never killed a human. He simply sent Tripitaka away.
Sandy notices a crack in the wall of the cell. Behind Locke’s palace is a waterfall. Given Sandy’s elemental power to control water, she might be able to direct pressure from the waterfall through the crack of the cell, however, rather than a waterfall, she only finds a sewer pipe.
Tripitaka sneaks back into Palawa on the back of a wagon. She is being followed by the Font Demon, disguised as a blind man. He chases her down but loses her trail after Pigsy saves her. He tells Tripitaka that she can’t be seen in town as he was given orders to kill her.
Monkey asks Sandy why she didn’t leave town. Sandy reveals that she was born into a world where gods didn’t exist. All she ever knew was hiding. She did it so long that she couldn’t see any other way. She then asks Monkey if he’s ever been in love, but he doesn’t want to answer.
Tripitaka tells Pigsy that she’s going back to save her friends. She knows that he’s a god, which is why he didn’t kill her and saved her from the demon. He can’t help his true nature. Pigsy argues that he does a pretty good job of it most days — he sells gods to demons and does whatever else a demon tells him to. Locke told him to kill Tripitaka. Should she find out that he didn’t, they’ll both be killed. Pigsy tries to convince Tripitaka to leave, but she refuses to do so without Monkey and Sandy.
With Pigsy’s help, Tripitaka breaks Monkey and Sandy free from their cell. Locke arrives at the cell to find them escaping. Pigsy stays behind, rips off all his jewelry, everything Locke’s ever given him, and tells her that he will no longer serve her. She asks who will take care of her. He replies that she can take care of herself.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy find themselves surrounded by the Font Demon and Locke, forcing them into a fight. Monkey takes out the Font Demon whilst Sandy and Pigsy dispatch Locke and her guards. Pigsy speaks to the people of Palawa. He offers them their freedom and tells them of his plans to rid the town of demons, starting with imprisoning Locke. She warns them that "he" has seen everything and everything he sees is coming true.
Monica tells Tripitaka that she will send a sky lantern up in her honor. It blesses the journey of the gods and promises them good spirits, courage, and fortitude. Monica whispers into Tripitaka’s ear to tell her that she’s a good girl and to take care of herself.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy then set off on their journey west to recover the sacred scrolls.
Davari watches from a portal as Monkey, Tipitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy leave Palawa. He says that you can’t trust anyone but yourself, which is why the only friends he keeps are the ones he made by his own hands. He takes a lock of hair from a god and creates another Font Demon.
