The Kin are a cursed species of demon. They are a small group of four that have exiled themselves to a forest.
Biography[]
The Kin were once former bodyguards of the White Bone Demon Queen. The Kin stole a sacred treasure from their former mistress. And in return, she cast a spell that stole their faces. She also gave each of them a new face. Some say they possess the face of animals, others say insects or rodents. But the truth is that no one has ever seen the face of a Kin and lived. They’ve exiled themselves from the world and lived in the forest ever since. Long enough to develop a taste for people. The Kin also draw their strength from the forest. Where the forest ends, so does their power. They won’t track beyond it.
Until I Met You[]
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy flee from the Shaman and Raxion. They enter Kin territory. Shaman and Raxion are reluctant to continue to track them. Shaman instructs Raxion to speak to the Kin alone. Raxion fears that they will kill him the moment they lay eyes on him, but Shaman retorts that the Kin already know that they’re there.
Raxion goes to speak with the Kin. Spider Kin asks what he wants. Raxion is prepared to make them an offer — he’s willing to pay them for the safe return of the monk. They’re free to do with the gods as they see fit.
While escaping persecution, Tripitaka is separated from the group; taken by one of the Kin. Pigsy stabs his rake into the ground, splitting it down the middle and forcing the Kin to come out of hiding with Tripitaka. He sets a trap for Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy, lying in wait with an arrow for them to come by. However, he is killed with that very same arrow by Gwen.
Spider Kin mourns a fallen comrade, though Raxion isn’t concerned and tells him that they need to catch the monk.
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Pigsy, and Gwen find themselves surrounded by the Kin, forced into combat. Pigsy gets lured into a spider web while Sandy is knocked to the ground. Gwen warns them that their adversaries are trying to divide them. The Kin shoot a dart into Tripitaka’s leg and retreat.
Spider Kin intentionally poisoned Tripitaka in order to charge Raxion for the antidote. Raxion pulls his mask off and demands that Spider Kin look at him when he's talking to him. Under his mask is a face so frightening that Raxion falls back.
The next morning, Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, Pigsy, and Gwen near the edge of the forest. They can hear the Kin approaching. Gwen takes cover with Tripitaka while Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy each take on a Kin. Sandy kills a Kin after launching her double-bladed axe into its chest. Pigsy does the same by stabbing a Kin with his rake.
Monkey hears Tripitaka shout his name. He kills Spider Kin with his staff and rushes to Tripitaka.
