The New Legends of Monkey is a television series co-produced between the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, New Zealand's TVNZ, and Netflix. It is inspired by the classic Japanese series Monkey, which in turn was based on the 16th century Chinese fable Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en.
The series first premiered in Australia on 28 January 2018, with the first three episodes of the first season airing, followed by daily episode releases. Internationally, it became available on Netflix on April 28, 2018. The second season was released on Netflix on August 7, 2020.
Premise[]
Tripitaka, a valiant, teenage girl, liberates the Monkey King — a god long trapped in stone — in a quest to find seven sacred scrolls and save the world from evil. They are joined by two other fallen gods, Pigsy and Sandy, as they set out on their perilous journey to bring an end to a demonic reign of chaos and restore balance to their world.
