Plot synopsis[]
A shape-shifting demon uses her powers to assume Sandy's appearance, then kidnaps village children to make Monkey's group seem like the evil ones.
Summary[]
Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy, and Pigsy continue their journey for the next sacred scroll. They reach a village, where they learn that the villagers are being hassled by the squid demon, Lady Tsumori.
As Cranius slowly recovers from his injury, Tsumori reveals to General Khan, Dreglon, Mothrax, and Gorm that Monkey has ventured north and reached the Rivertowns, which belong to Tsumori. The demon leaders proceed to fight over control while Mothrax is entranced by the flaming torch Moggoth holds. Tsumori states that Monkey won’t leave the Rivertowns until they know the secrets of the scrolls.
Sandy lies awake at night and decides to take the plant for a walk. She comes face-to-face with Tsumori, who disguises herself as fishwife, a village woman. Once Sandy leaves, Tsumori takes her appearance. She then sneaks up behind the real fishwife and locks her in a chest.
Monkey, Tripitaka, and Pigsy awaken the following morning as Sandy is accused of stealing children in the night. Monkey claims that they're innocent and offers to protect by digging a trench so that they aren’t as vulnerable. However, it is Pigsy who does most of the digging.
As Tripitaka and Sandy walk through the village, Sandy discovers that kids are drawing frightening pictures of her. She questions why.
After digging the trench, Monkey and Pigsy plant bombs and argue over just how to hide the explosives. Pigsy settle on creating a safe passage way with white stones.
Tripitaka awakens from her sleep to find Sandy moving throughout the village. However, she looks over and also sees Sandy sleeping next to her. And so Tripitaka goes to investigate. She suddenly finds herself confronted by a Kaedo. The boy bests her in a fight and then explains that he’s an ally. He tells her that they’ve been tricked into turning the village into a trap and instructs her to continue her quest. He’s been following since the Graveyard of the Gods. He then gives her a Fangkris blade, explaining that it has a poison tip. Several of the village women exit their homes, screaming for help as their babies are missing. They blame Sandy for stealing them.
Tripitaka reveals to Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy that they’ve been trapped. She was warned by a young boy after seeing Sandy’s doppelgänger. She shows them the Fangkris blade he gave her, forged from the teeth of dragons with a poison tip. Tripitaka wants to escape, but Sandy refuses to leave without finding the children first.
As she continues to impersonate one of the villager fishwife, Tsumori has organized with the other villagers and put all the children in a cage to keep them safe.
Sandy notices a trail of black goo leading to the well, where she realizes that the fishwife is the kidnapper. Another child then goes missing — Omari. Monkey arranges a search party while Sandy searches for the fishwife.
Monkey and Pigsy discover a hole in the perimeter. They find themselves surrounded by the bombs they set without a safe passage, however, with a child in danger, they travel the path nonetheless.
Sandy enters the fishwife’s tent to find the real fishwife trapped in a trunk. Sandy releases her. She reveals that it was Sandy, or at least someone who looked like her that imprisoned her.
Tripitaka stands guard and protects the children. Tsumori arrives disguised as Sandy. She knocks Tripitaka to the ground and takes one of the children, threatening to drop the child down the well should Tripitaka refuse to tell her about the scrolls. Tsumori wants to know why Davari and Cranius desired them. She spits black ink in Tripitaka’s face, takes the scrolls from around her shoulder before escaping down the well. The villagers accuse Tripitaka of working with Sandy to take their children and surround her. Kaedo comes to her aid and they both retreat inside the cage.
Monkey and Pigsy find the missing boy Omari trapped in a net. They ask why he ran away. He explains that he wants to be with his friends.
Sandy follows Tsumori into the well. Tsumori claims that the children are dead, but Sandy doesn’t believe her. Tsumori then transforms into Sandy and says that no one loves her. Sandy hears one of the children scream out for help. So, she launches her double bladed axe into the back of Tsumori and kills her, and then rescues the missing children while also recovering the scrolls.
Rather than running through the field of bombs, Monkey calls his cloud to take himself, Pigsy, and the child back to the village, but it doesn’t come, though, they are joined by Sandy.
Tripitaka and Kaedo are trapped by the villagers. Thankfully, Monkey, Sandy, and Pigsy return with the missing kids.
The fishwife has sent messengers to all the Rivertowns, telling them how Sandy defeated Tsumori. She’ll be greeted with hospitality all along the river.
Tripitaka reveals that the scroll wants them to go back to take the other fork. Monkey asks Kaedo where he got the Fangkris blade. Kaedo reveals that it belonged to his father, and his father's father. He decides to join them on their quest for the other scrolls.
